WORDS FROM THE EDITOR
As I'm pondering the launch of this blog I find myself trying to write this absoulutely out of this world introduction. It should summarize the various textures and moods which have made music such a focal part of my life. It should be as deep and prolific as the music that will soon follow. It should capitivate you to telephone and tell a friend you've found the answer to utter and total happiness comes in the form of a url. If only I had the passion for writing as I do for music maybe then the words would fall into place. Without any real thought it comes to me. Actually scratch that, for it's more like it was here all along, the answer that is. This isn't Chris Angel's smoke and mirrors, this isn't 250k into marketing, this isn't even about spins or downloads. No this is where we give the power back to the rightful owners. In closing, this is where we let the music speak for itself. No introduction needed people. We're here now, simple because we never left.

WEEKLY TOP 5 - DEAD OR ALIVE
1) MOSHITUP - JUST ICE FT. KRS ONE

This is the joint we would use to tune up our system when we were paying our dues in the late 80's (peace to Kevin Brown). Turn it up loud and you'll see why. This is definetly one of the finest examples of how to walk the line between dancehall and hip hop without sounding forced. Sound bwoy buriel is still number 1.

2) 90% Of Me - KARIME KENDRA

I found out about this at amonsieurwillyworld.blogspot.com. This is a beautiful dancehall cover of the smash hit by Gwen McCrae. They also had posted another version by The Dynamics but I find this version to be sonically superior.

3) THE HEALER - ERYKAH BADU

A bangin' joint off the upcoming Erykah Badu album entitied "Amerykah" due out late this month. I definetly diggin' this alot more than the "honey" joint she dropped a while back (even though the video for "honey" is dope as hell). Madlib killed the production without question.

4) THE HARDEST PART - CURTIS ANDERSON

Killer rare groove joint from 1982 which came out on the Brown Bag Label. It's a beautiful marriage when a song's beats and it's words are both equally as heavy. This was later recorded by Donald Albert but nothing beats the original. Matter of fact I think I'm gonna dub this the "bad break up" anthem of the century.

5) BABY LET'S DANCE TOGETHER - KITTU

I found this on a compilation entitled "Bollywood Funk," which came out a couple of years ago. The original appears on the "Shalimar" soundtrack which is a rare piece of vinyl to obtain. The song has so many elements fused into it yet at the same time it's so minimal. Brilliant!

88 FACTS OF LIFE (FACT 1)

It took Grand Master Flash only two takes in the studio to record the ground breaking " Wheels of Steel." He used three turntables and two mixers for the recording, which by the way was done straight through without any punch ins. Remarkable.
