Once again it’s time to show love to those wonderful estrogen filled bodies of mostly water. Even though I must be honest, I didn’t know about this holiday until I made my way into work today. Nevertheless I was able to score 2 roses and an Mp3 player which was being given out to the ladies @ the office. This I’ll pass along to my girl who I highly doubt knows about this particular holiday but should still be happy about the roses and Mp3 player. This of course is until she reads this posting which she’ll reply that I didn’t give any thought to this holiday that was previously unbeknownst to both of us. Hmmnn….I could go on forever with this but what can I say it’s a celebration ladies, let’s move on. There’s just something about this topic that make me drift back to when my man Mr. Roam would constantly question my love or lack thereof for female emcees. Well its years later but let me just clear the air. I think KRS one said it best, “a good emcee is a good emcee”. So I don’t lower my critique when it comes to the females. Basically y’all better be on some Antionette (do ya research people), Roxanne Shante, Rah Digga, Ladybug Mecca, Lauryn Hill (before the acoustic shit) heavy material.. The only thing light should be MC Lyte. Word. Anyway homies, go home kiss your girls, hug your moms and let your daughters know exactly how special they are. It’s because of them why we’re all here now, and that there’s the truth, ruth. Peace.

NEW HEROES
As the music industry continues to go through its metamorphosis, I think it’s safe to say visions of butterflies are extremely far fetched. You see a butterfly is recognizable, there’s already a blue print for that particular change. Where we’re headed now is uncharted territory. Matter of fact someone should get James T. Kirk on the line and tell we need a captain for this vessel. As Scotty tries his best to hang on to the previous way of doing things it’s evitable that the whole thing’s about to blow. A lot of your favorite artists will fall to the wayside along this journey. Yet don’t you fear for with that there will be an emergence of new artists who are more equipped to travel this uncharted terrain. These will become our new heroes and they will lead us valiantly as we build on what is about to be destroyed. Enter Jay Electronica, one of our new heroes?
I just looked at my recently posted blog on the PAPOOSE vs. FAT JOE story and thought to myself “who cares”, I mean really “who cares”. There’s a million other blogs out there posting this exact story, why am I going to join the parade. Especially when we know 50 the one that'll egg this whole thing on. I mean I don’t even like 50cent, plus isn’t his edition of the standard 5yr “king of hip hop” run suppose to be over now. Yeah I know, I’m on some real hate sh!t. Well I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t allow myself the opportunity to experience all the emotions that come with it. That includes the f$%k 50 emotion which I refuse to let stay dormant. Anyway in light of that I’ve decided to post a story which holds a little more weight. Not that it was that hard to find one. I mean really I could have posted a piece on the origin of “post-it” notes and it would have proved to be more interesting. Enjoy the story. (The Origin Of Post It Notes)
Post-it ® notes may have been a God-send…literally. In the early 1970s, Art Fry was in search of a bookmark for his church hymnal that would neither fall out nor damage the hymnal. Fry noticed that a colleague at 3M, Dr. Spencer Silver, had developed an adhesive that was strong enough to stick to surfaces, but left no residue after removal and could be repositioned. Fry took some of Dr. Silver’s adhesive and applied it along the edge of a piece of paper. His church hymnal problem was solved!
Fry soon realized that his "bookmark" had other potential functions when he used it to leave a note on a work file, and co-workers kept dropping by, seeking "bookmarks" for their offices. This "bookmark" was a new way to communicate and to organize. 3M Corporation crafted the name Post-it note for Fry’s bookmarks and began production in the late 70s for commercial use.
In 1977, test-markets failed to show consumer interest. However in 1979, 3M implemented a massive consumer sampling strategy, and the Post-it note took off. Today, we see Post-it ® notes peppered across files, computers, desks, and doors in offices and homes throughout the country. From a church hymnal bookmark to an office and home essential, the Post-it note has colored the way we work.

1882 2008 Spring/Summer Collection As a tribute to the toils and hardships of Asian Americans in the United States, 1882 is a reflection of the events that transpired in a movement that largely began during the California Gold Rush. The name 1882 is derived from the monumental Chinese Exclusion Act signed in 1882 which severely restricted the entry of any Chinese workers, both skilled and unskilled. Here are four t-shirts designed by prominent Asian members of the streetwear community including Eddie of (Commune) and Arnold of Greyone. Available now at select retailers including 5& A Dime, Bowls, Fresh, and Laced LV.

Marvel vs. Technics - Fiction Meets Reality Bond Internationl just released a very special series of Marvel vs. Technics t-shirts, that many of you should be very excited about, just like we are. "Music and art have always been associated, and this is a team up that makes sense. DJ’s and urban DJ culture has great respect for the urban comic book style that is Marvel Comics. Well, this is natural, especially seeing as the cultures spawned from the same time, in the same city, in the same country. DJ and turntable pioneer Afrika Bambaataa created a historic record cover when he teamed up with the Soul Sonic Force to release ’Renegades of Funk.’ The album cover was taken straight from a Marvel Comics cover."

Depend on outlet no more with PowerMonkey Portable ChargerEvery gadget lover knows that his favorite gadget is always limited by battery life. Cell phone, PDA or music player - they all live a very limited amount of time, and must be recharged when it ends. Sometimes, due to dead battery, we can miss important calls, or be left with no music on a half way to destination we going. It is very annoying - to depend on those chemical processes that happen inside a battery of your most needed gadget. You can buy an additional battery, but it is very expensive to buy it for every gadget you have! PowerMonkey made a solution for people who want to be protected from sudden battery
CD and DVD burners are so common nowadays, that it is hard to find a PC without CD-RW\DVD-RW drive. Sometimes, when your friend brings another cool DVD, it is a pity that you cannot just copy it without going to nearest PC. It slows the process, and laziness prevails in most times. Imagine that there is a gadget that will simplify this process. That will be capable of copying CD and DVD without need of PC connection, portable and rapid! Fortunately, such gadget really exists. read more
can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for a cell phone like this. Called the Mooon+ (yes, 3 ‘os’), the device’s mouth piece doubles as a Bluetooth headset, and when it’s plugged into the phone it charges. Battery life might be a concern, but come on, we all charge our iPhones daily. Perhaps Apple will take a hint and design an add-on on Bluetooth headset that doubles as a Bluetooth dongle for streaming music. Apple? It includes a touchscreen interface, but hold onto those check books, it’s just a concept. TAKE THE TIME AND WATCH D'S. MAIN SOURCE - JUST HANGIN' OUT DE LA SOUL - BUDDY
TAKEN FROM THISIS50.COM On Friday Feb 29 in North Corolina Papoose,Cassidy,Fat Joe,Gucci Mane,Yo Gotti, and Fabolous were booked to perform at The Criquet Arena. Before the show could go on, the Main Event happened earlier at The Holiday Inn Hotel in North Carolina, where the rappers had been staying at .Sources from Cassidy’s crew tell us that Cassidy had asked Papoose to come to his room so they could talk. Papoose eventually came to his room and while the two rappers were talking, all of the sudden Fat Joe and 9 Members of his Entourage storm right into Cassidy’s room. Fat Joe suddenly starts yelling at Papoose, “You Got A Problem With Me?” and Papoose replied, “No, do you have a problem?” When Fat Joe responds ” yeah, I got a problem with you,” thats when Papoose swung at Fat Joe, punching him in the face twice. Before you knew it all hell broke loose. Sources tell us that Fat Joe and his crew rushed the rapper and Hotel security had to seperate the fight before Law Enforcement could get to the Hotel. Sources tells us that they heard Papoose yelling at Joe, “Come on Bitch ass nigga lets take this shit outside give me a fair one.”
PHOTOSHOP IN FULL EFFECT. This weekly top 5 is a video edition dedicated to Hip Hop's fashion swag. Enjoy. TOP 5 – DEAD OR ALIVE (HIP HOP SWAG/VIDEO EDITION)
1) THE B-BOY 1973-1989
The epitome of Hip Hop swag was born with the b-boy. Fat laces, cazal glasses, lee jeans, adidas shell toes & pumas were all made famous by the b-boy. He was the ultimate connoisseur of fashion and did not rely on any blueprint to dictate what was considered “Fresh”. Unfortunately, the b-boy died around 1989 when the music became less personal and more global.
PLANET ROCK - AFRIKA BAMBAATAA & THE SOUL SONIC FORCE
2) THE AFROCENTRIC 1987 – 1991
Afrocentric fashion became popular during the years when conscious rap was widely prevalent. Rappers and consumers alike sported African beads, black medallions and were mostly seen in red, black and green (“cross colors”). The afrocentric side eventually faded and made way for the gangsta rap era which was more viable from a company perspective. That last line is beyond sad.
SUNSHINE - BRAND NUBIAN
3) THE BACKPACKER 1994 - present
The backpacker was born from the globalizing of Hip Hop in the 90’s. In a climate that seen the music become divided, the backpacker stayed more true to the original roots of Hip Hop. Timberland boots, Tommy Hilfiger, carhart jackets and of course the typical Jansport backpack were usually the gear of choice. The term is still used today but usually carries a negative or nerdy connotation.
WHO GOT THE PROPS – BLACK MOON
4) THE GANGSTA 1973 – present Seeing how hip hop was born from struggles of the inner city youth, it’s safe to say gangsta fashion has been around since its inception. Pretty much walking hand in hand with the b-boy until the early 90’s which ushered in the great divide in hip hop. Bandanas, hoodies, baggy clothes and excessive jewelry became the staples for the gangsta.
GO GETTA - YOUNG JEEZY FT. R. KELLY
5) THE HIPSTER CAT
The hipster cat is an amalgamation of all the fashion trends listed above. Replacing the baggyness for a more close fitting look while still having an emphasis on the jewellerey. Some may describe him as the new school b-boy with his strong passion for throwback orientated styles. i.e the b-boy era.

NEWS OF RAPPER JUVENILE'S DAUGHTER'S TRAGIC MURDER. IT LEAVES EVERYONE ASKING THE SAME QUESTION, WHY ???
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the fatal shootings of his mother and her two little girls, one of whom was rap star Juvenile's 4-year-old daughter. Anthony Tyrone Terrell Jr. was charged Friday in the deaths at the family home near Lawrenceville, where the bodies were found the night before, said police spokeswoman Illana Spellman. She identified the victims as Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy Joy Deleston, 39, and her two daughters, Micaiah, 11, and Jelani, 4. The motive was still unclear. Deleston brought a paternity lawsuit in 2004, claiming that the 32-year-old rap star Juvenile, whose real name is Terius Gray, was Jelani's father, Gwinnett County court records show. Attorney Randy Kessler, who represented Juvenile in the proceedings, said the case was resolved peacefully by consent order in 2006. Both parties agreed Juvenile was the father. Kessler said Saturday he had not talked with the rapper about the killings. "Anytime you have a situation like that, it's shocking," Kessler said. Terrell was taken to jail in neighboring DeKalb County to avoid any potential conflict because Deleston worked for Gwinnett County, Spellman said. He is being held without bail. Because of his age, prosecutors cannot seek the death penalty against Terrell. A preliminary hearing will be set next week in Gwinnett County Superior Court, said prosecutor Danny Porter. Defense attorney Lyle Porter did not return a call Friday. An attempt to reach Juvenile at a listing for "T. Gray" in the New Orleans area, where he is based, was unsuccessful on Friday night. Authorities on Friday found the gun used, going by information provided by Terrell. Spellman said she could not confirm whether Deleston's service weapon was used. Deleston, a seven-year member of the department, had been assigned to the sex offender unit, police said. Police had gone to the subdivision because a caller reported shots fired, Officer David Schiralli said earlier. They found a bullet hole in a house, then checked next door because they knew a deputy lived there. They opened the door to announce themselves and discovered the bodies, Schiralli said. The 17-year-old son arrived at the house about 35 minutes later, he said. Spellman said the boy was arrested after talking to investigators but didn't elaborate. Neighbors said the family had moved in less than a year ago. They often saw Deleston in her squad car coming home from work and said having a deputy around was reassuring. Jeff Beaird, who lives across the street, said he often saw Terrell in the driveway shooting hoops with his friends or washing his mother's patrol car but doesn't remember anything out of the ordinary. "It's so shocking because you don't expect something like this to happen," Beaird said. Juvenile has been arrested several times on charges ranging from failure to pay child support to resisting an officer in a scuffle at a Florida mall in 1999. Most of the charges have been dismissed.

I know you’re probably thinking this is way too “heavy”. Believe me, this was one of those should I or shouldn’t I post’s. I finally decided to go ahead since “Black History Month” has always been about the evaluation of where we’re going, where we’re at and definitely where we’re from. Now what I take from the above document is that within 175yrs, roughly three generations of us growing as a people, we’ve managed to come a long way. We’ve went from not having a voice to quite possibility having the strongest voice in western civilization (Barack Obama). We’ve given birth to such influential genres of music such as jazz, blues, rock n’ roll and of course hip hop, which has grown to become a multi-billion dollar a year corporation. I mean look at the document again and realize we’ve truly come a very long way. And yes I know we still have a lot of ills which need curing in our community’s, that goes without saying. There’s always going to be work that’s needed to be done. I am only here to ask you to put down the out dated beefs, refrain from the childish finger pointing and take a small moment as a family to bask in the greatness of all our truly wonderful accomplishments. For we have indeed come a very long way people.
In keeping step with the topic at hand I put a little compilation CD together to help celebrate our growth as a people. Hope y’all enjoy it.

A COUPLE VIDEOS YOU CAN BUMP FROM BACK IN THE DAY WHEN MUSIC WAS A BIT MORE MESSAGE INSPIRED.
This week's top 5 is courtesy of my man ARCEE (Real Frequency) who by his own admission is a "Certified Hip Hop Professional". I myself am still working towards obtaining my certificate. Actually I would have graduated last year had it not been for a rather low mark in the horrorcore rap class. I just can't seem to grasp my head around that whole Gravediggaz, Flatlinaz thing. Who knows, I guess there's always night school. Anyway without any further a due we present to you this week's top 5. As we proceed to keep on, ROCKIN' YOU (insert echo here). I just had to do it.
WEEKLY TOP 5 - DEAD OR ALIVE(ARCEE'S PICK'S) 1) A PRAYER TO MICHAEL VICK AND T.I - JAY ELECTRONICA "I never got shook up by talks of Illuminati/ I’m from where niggas talk that talk and walk around the streets all day carrying heat like the human body"
Lyrics. Maybe that’s the reason this New Orleans native got more buzz than a giant Philishave. Maybe it’s beats from Dilla, Madlib, Mr. Porter and Just Blaze. Or maybe once Erykah Badu starts fucking you, your game reaches new heights. Either way, I can’t wait for the result. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GVN7U4JK
2) MY GIRL - THE BUDOS BAND You probably don’t know that you’re a fan of The Budos Band. You might know them as the Dap Kings when they back Sharon Jones. They were the Menahan Street Band when Jay-Z jacked them for "Roc Boys". And you may have heard a group called the Daptones write and perform with a little singer named Amy Winehouse, You can find their interpretation of the Temptations classic on their appropriately titled sophmore LP, The Budos Band II. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RDRIHTNJ
3) MY MOMENT (ADVANCE) - GUILTY SIMPSON I call Guilty Simpson the Nonchalant Menace. He always appears to be on some wild shit, but he’s always just casual about it. I’ve been on this Black Milk joint hard since my man Jay put me up on the official advance. His debut album, Ode to the Ghetto drops March 25th on Stones Throw. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IVROV7SC
4) LOVIN' MAN - EUGENE MCDANIELS I recently uploaded 1971’s Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse to the ipeezy and rediscovered this joint right here. I must confess I only really valued this album because Tribe used it. Eugene McDaniels was on some revolutionary Bob Dylan meets Gil Scott Heron shit. Timeless. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O7QUBM84
5) HOLD ON - MARVEL Marvel is one of the truly underappreciated artists in Toronto. Even the people who think they appreciate him don’t really do. Like even as I write this, I’m inclined to criticize the quality of the mix. But Marvel’s cerebral yet graceful delivery dances all over the two-track from Mr. Attic. His words are like puzzles that put themselves together upon multiple listens. Fuck that easily digestible tablet rap. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JO0NX38V
IF FOR SOME REASON YOU'VE BEEN UNDER A ROCK.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND CHECK THEREALFREQUENCY.COM. SERIOUSLY, YOU'RE MISSING OUT HOMEY.
The 13.7 billion a year corporation known as Valentine’s has recently been destroyed. Analyst are still trying to figure out the cause of this sudden tradegy. All I know is the February 13th thoughts of “what do I get her/him” shall now be a distant memory. The single and separated can now parade around free on that day without any feeling of exclusion from society. To put it you blunt there will be no need to settle in January for fear of being alone in February. People of the world we have now been liberated. Awakening me from this blissful state is an update which filters through on the radio. It seems they have found the assailants responsible for this well needed or vicious attack, depending on which side of the fence you sit. The group of all things is calling themselves T.L.C a.k.a the True Love Committee. Without thinking I start uncontrollably laughing at the irony of the situation. You see it makes perfect sense, the committee will no doubt plead self defense and explain that it’s actually the corporation who’s been secretly trying to kill them for years. “We had no choice it was either us or them” they’ll say. Well enough of the wishful thinking I got a blog to write.
It’s Valentine’s Day and western civilization says as men we should be celebrating those wonderful estrogen filled bodies of mostly water which fill our world with so much joy. Now my defense to that may be “how the hell do you expect me to celebrate such a pagan holiday brought forth by a pedophile who rightfully received his gross & tragic end”. (Do your research people) Unfortunately my girl may not be as concerned with the origins of this particular holiday. So without any further a due, here’s our weekly top 5- valentine’s edition. And by the way I'm definetly a big fan of those estrogen filled bodies of mostly water which fill our world with so much joy.
WEEKLY TOP 5 - VALENTINE'S EDITION 1) WHEN A MAN'S IN LOVE - YAMI BOLO Recorded on the famous Stalag riddim produced by Winston Riley(same riddim as sister nancy's "bam bam") when he was only 13yrs old. This was olso sampled by KRS 1 for Mad Lion's hit "take it easy." Without a doubt my favourite reggae riddim of all time. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H36O4C2Q
2) MAHAGONY - ERIC B & RAKIM I'll never take anything away from Slick Rick's ability to write great stories, that goes without saying. The thing with Rakim though was he was able to paint pictures, no scratch that, he was able to paint masterpieces in your head. This is a brilliant example of his artistry at work. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9BZZGA7U
3) I'M GLAD YOU'RE MINE - AL GREEN This song has been sampled numerous times including the above mentioned tune. What can ya say when the drums are knockin' like that, but if you can make your way pass the breakbeat you'll come face to face with one truly soulful song. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7OE9U71R
4) YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME - D-TRAIN My uncle used to kill the hell outta this joint. It's cool how in the 80's you could get on some uptempo club sh!t without sounding like you talking to some chick at the strip club. Not that there anything wrong with stripping at the club, especially with the price of tuition nowadays. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BZINYCKO
5) LOVE, LOVE, LOVE - DONNY HATHAWAY I was kinda torn between upping this or Ectasy by Ohio Players. I finally decided on this joint taken from the "Extensions Of A Man" lp because I just love faultless vocals. One can only imagine what would drive such a talented artist to take his own life at the upswing of his career. Regardless his memory and music still live on to this day. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5GZIQ4W8
ONE GIANT STEP FOR MANKIND
NEIL ARMSTRONG is a dj with the 5th Platoon, a group of turntablist from the NYC consisting of Daddy Dog, Kuttin Kandi, Vinroc, Do Boy, Roli Rho and I.Emerge. The Platoon has been around since the mid 90's where they started off as battle dj's. Since then they'd moved on to more showcase type dj's, who aside from rockin' shows have put out some quality material in the form of mixed CD's. More notably is the work of Neil Armstrong whose craftsmanship is bar none. With that said i'm a little embarrassed to admit that unitl around a year ago I was totally unaware of the CD's he has put out. So in keeping with the whole Valentine's theme I have decided to up these two from his All Out King series. The beats, vocals as well as movie snippets all combine to tell one cohesive story.
WORDS FROM THE EDITOR As I'm pondering the launch of this blog I find myself trying to write this absoulutely out of this world introduction. It should summarize the various textures and moods which have made music such a focal part of my life. It should be as deep and prolific as the music that will soon follow. It should capitivate you to telephone and tell a friend you've found the answer to utter and total happiness comes in the form of a url. If only I had the passion for writing as I do for music maybe then the words would fall into place. Without any real thought it comes to me. Actually scratch that, for it's more like it was here all along, the answer that is. This isn't Chris Angel's smoke and mirrors, this isn't 250k into marketing, this isn't even about spins or downloads. No this is where we give the power back to the rightful owners. In closing, this is where we let the music speak for itself. No introduction needed people. We're here now, simple because we never left.
WEEKLY TOP 5 - DEAD OR ALIVE 1) MOSHITUP - JUST ICE FT. KRS ONE This is the joint we would use to tune up our system when we were paying our dues in the late 80's (peace to Kevin Brown). Turn it up loud and you'll see why. This is definetly one of the finest examples of how to walk the line between dancehall and hip hop without sounding forced. Sound bwoy buriel is still number 1. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UU8BKZAI
2) 90% Of Me - KARIME KENDRA I found out about this at amonsieurwillyworld.blogspot.com. This is a beautiful dancehall cover of the smash hit by Gwen McCrae. They also had posted another version by The Dynamics but I find this version to be sonically superior. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I8D250YC
3) THE HEALER - ERYKAH BADU A bangin' joint off the upcoming Erykah Badu album entitied "Amerykah" due out late this month. I definetly diggin' this alot more than the "honey" joint she dropped a while back (even though the video for "honey" is dope as hell). Madlib killed the production without question. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T11HIKH0
4) THE HARDEST PART - CURTIS ANDERSON
Killer rare groove joint from 1982 which came out on the Brown Bag Label. It's a beautiful marriage when a song's beats and it's words are both equally as heavy. This was later recorded by Donald Albert but nothing beats the original. Matter of fact I think I'm gonna dub this the "bad break up" anthem of the century.
I found this on a compilation entitled "Bollywood Funk," which came out a couple of years ago. The original appears on the "Shalimar" soundtrack which is a rare piece of vinyl to obtain. The song has so many elements fused into it yet at the same time it's so minimal. Brilliant!
It took Grand Master Flash only two takes in the studio to record the ground breaking " Wheels of Steel." He used three turntables and two mixers for the recording, which by the way was done straight through without any punch ins. Remarkable.
